What 1,057 Land Cruisers say about losing money in Qatar

There are more than 1,400 Toyota Land Cruisers for sale on this site, spanning 31 model years. It is the most listed car in Qatar by a wide margin — nearly three times the next one, the Nissan Patrol — and it is the car most people here are either buying, selling, or quietly working out whether they can afford. What nobody publishes is the number that actually matters: what it is worth after you have owned it.

So we counted. What follows is the median asking price for every model year from 2014 onward that has at least eight cars behind it, taken from live listings. Not a guide price, not a dealer's estimate — the middle of what people are actually asking today.

The curve

• 2026 — QAR 288,000 — 109 listed, averaging under 6,000 km. These are barely used.
• 2025 — QAR 248,000 — 92 listed. The first year costs 14%.
• 2024 — QAR 238,500 — 132 listed, the deepest year on the site.
• 2022 — QAR 202,500 — 102 listed. Three years in, you are at 70%.
• 2021 — QAR 165,000 — 92 listed.
• 2019 — QAR 141,000 — 71 listed. Half of new, at seven years.
• 2018 — QAR 132,000 — 54 listed.
• 2016 — QAR 110,000 — 72 listed.
• 2015 — QAR 79,500 — 76 listed. Ten years old, 28% of new.

The steepest single drop is the first year: QAR 40,000 gone before the car is meaningfully used.

The shape is the familiar one, but the detail is worth reading twice. The first year takes 14%. Years two and three are gentle — 2024 and 2023 sit within QAR 2,000 of each other, which means a car that is already a year old barely ages for the next twelve months. Then it steepens again from 2022 onward, roughly 10 to 15% a year, and the fall between 2016 and 2015 is the sharpest in the whole table.

Mileage costs more than a year does

Model year is only half the story. Holding the year roughly still — every Land Cruiser on the site from 2019 to 2022 — the odometer does this:

• Under 100,000 km — QAR 197,000 median, across 99 cars.
• 100,000 to 200,000 km — QAR 165,000 median, across 146 cars.
• Over 200,000 km — QAR 137,000 median, across 85 cars.

That is a 30% spread between the low-mileage and high-mileage halves of the same three model years. Put differently: crossing 200,000 km costs you about as much as ageing the car four years. If you are selling, the kilometres on the clock are doing more damage than the date on the registration — which is an argument for selling before a long summer of driving rather than after it.

What to do with this

• If you are buying — The 2023 and 2024 cars are the anomaly. They sit almost level with each other, so the extra year is nearly free — and both are well below the 2025 price for a car that is materially the same.
• If you are selling — Check which side of 200,000 km you are on before you set a price. It is worth more than a model year.
• If you are holding — Between years two and three this car loses almost nothing. That is the cheapest year of ownership you will have.

One caveat worth stating plainly, because it changes how you read the table. This is a snapshot of every model year as it is priced today, not one car followed for ten years. A 2015 car asking 28% of what a 2026 car asks is not proof that a particular Land Cruiser lost 72% of its value — the 2015 cost less when it was new. It is the price ladder a buyer actually faces in the showroom this week, which is the more useful number if you are about to hand over money, and the less useful one if you are forecasting your own car's resale in 2036.
