244 cars for sale in Qatar fall inside a recall announced this year. Not one listing says so.

We took the Ministry of Commerce and Industry's 2026 car recalls that we could find and matched them against every live listing on BuMotar. 244 cars fall in a recalled model and year, 99 of them twin-turbo Land Cruisers, and none of the adverts mentions a recall. That does not mean these cars are faulty. It means the question is yours to ask.

When Qatar's Ministry of Commerce and Industry announces a car recall, it says it will work with the dealer and contact customers so the repairs get done. That is aimed at the person who bought the car new and still has it. It says less about the person who buys that car next, and that person is who this article is for.

We found twelve news reports of ministry car recalls between January and June 2026, carried by The Peninsula and Qatar Tribune, and read each one. Then we counted the live listings on BuMotar on 5 November 2026 that match on make, model and model year.

What is on sale today

Of 13,652 live listings, 244 fall inside one of those recalls, about one car in 56. 160 are with dealers and 84 with private sellers, and 56 show 100 km or less, so this is not only an old-car question. By recall, with the fault the ministry described:

  • Land Cruiser 300 twin turbo, 2025 and 2026: 99 cars — Possible transmission fluid leak from the 10-speed gearbox. Announced 1 March.
  • Land Rover Defender, 2026: 40 cars — The weld stud on the third-row lower seatbelt bracket may not be strong enough. Announced 20 April.
  • Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator, 2018 to 2021: 26 cars — The check engine light may not work. Announced 12 January.
  • Ford Explorer, Mustang and Fusion and Lincoln MKT, 2015 and 2016: 25 cars — The central screen may go blank or distort in reverse. The recall also names the Taurus, Flex and MKZ. Announced 1 April.
  • Ford Bronco 2021 to 2026 and Edge 2021 to 2024: 20 cars — The rear-view camera image may not appear when reversing in high heat. Announced 1 June.
  • Ram 1500 and 2500, 2025 and 2026: 15 trucks — A trailer towing unit fault may lose the trailer's lights and brakes. Announced 20 April.
  • BMW 520i, 735i, 740i, 760i, i5, M5 and i7, 2022 to 2025: 8 cars — A damaged cockpit wiring harness may short circuit. Announced 25 March.
  • Hyundai Kona 2025 and 2026, 3 cars; Skoda Kodiaq 2025 and 2026, 3 cars — On the Kona, the instrument cluster may reboot while driving (7 April). On the Kodiaq, the front seat frame may reduce side airbag effectiveness (13 April).
  • Nissan Altima 2019 and 2020, 2 cars — The main crank bearing may be damaged, with a risk of stalling. Announced 13 April.
  • One each: Toyota Highlander 2021 to 2023, Jeep Grand Wagoneer 2022 and 2023, Mercedes V-Class 2026 — Rear seatback may not lock (6 April); a rear side window frame may detach (21 April); rear-seat monitoring software (1 April).

These faults are not equal. A reversing screen that goes blank is a nuisance you can check in a minute. A seatbelt bracket, a side airbag or a window frame that may come off is not something you can judge on a test drive.

Across all 13,652 listings, one uses the word recall. It is a 2023 Land Cruiser, and the seller is saying the work was done.

What the adverts say

We searched the descriptions of those 244 for recall, campaign and the Arabic equivalents. None has them, although 33 of the 244 have little or no description at all. Across the whole site one listing uses the word: a 2023 Land Cruiser GR at QAR 265,000 and 52,000 km, whose notes say the engine was replaced under a recall. That is the sentence a buyer wants to read, and it is alone.

This is not evidence of anyone hiding anything. Some of these cars may already have been repaired, and an unaffected car has nothing to declare. A seller who bought second-hand may never have heard about the recall. Silence in an advert tells you nothing either way, which is the point.

The Land Cruiser needs reading closely

The ministry's notice names two versions: the VJA300 petrol twin turbo and the FJA300 diesel twin turbo. It does not name the non-turbo V6 or the hybrid. So we did not count every 2025 and 2026 Land Cruiser, of which there are 240. The 99 are the 91 whose listing says twin turbo and 8 VX, VXR or GR cars that do not say it, in trims our other listings almost always describe as twin turbo.

We left out 14 hybrids and 22 Prado, 70 Series and LX listings. We also left out 92 G, GX and GXR cars that do not mention a turbo, plus 13 where we cannot tell. Some of those 105 will be the non-turbo engine and some will not; a few listings say naturally aspirated outright, most say nothing. If yours is one of them, the badge settles nothing and the chassis number does.

Of the 99, 81 joined our site after 1 March, so they were advertised after the recall was public. Did it move prices? We cannot say. Three 2025 GXR Twin Turbos listed before that date have a median asking price of QAR 262,000, at 44,000 km. Ten listed since ask QAR 272,000, at 17,800 km. Too few cars, at too different a mileage, to show anything.

South Africa's National Consumer Commission describes 1,846 LC300s sold between January 2025 and January 2026: a solenoid failure the car's control units may not detect, over-revving in some gears, possible fluid leaks. The remedy there is reprogramming the transmission computer at no cost. In the UAE, Gulf News and Dubai Standard report a separate campaign for 15,750 Land Cruiser 300s built from 2021 to 2024, also inspected and reprogrammed free of charge. We found no matching Qatari notice for those earlier years, which does not mean there is none. The reports of the Qatari recall we read give no remedy and do not say who pays, so do not assume either.

What to do with this

  • If you are buying — Before paying a deposit, get the chassis number and give it to the brand's Qatar agent. Ask two things: is this car in an open recall, and has the work been done? Ask whether there is any charge. Get the answer on paper or in a message, and walk away from a seller who will not share the number. The ministry's consumer protection line is 16001.
  • If you are selling — Check your own chassis number first. If the work is done, say so in the advert and keep the invoice. On today's BuMotar listings that makes you the second seller to say it.
  • If you are holding — If you bought your car second-hand, do not assume the agent has your phone number. The ministry says customers will be contacted, and we do not know how well that reaches a second owner. A single call with the chassis number costs nothing. If you own a 2021 to 2024 Land Cruiser 300, ask about those years as well.

What we do not know, and what would change the answer. Our 244 is a match on model and year, not a count of affected cars. Recalls usually apply to particular chassis numbers, the reports we read do not list them, and we do not know how many of these cars were repaired. It is also not a complete list: we used the car recalls we could find, none of the reports we found is later than 1 June, and a recall we missed would raise the number. We relied on press reports of each recall and did not read the ministry's original notices. Only 15 of 30 2025 and 2026 Rams say 1500 or 2500, and BMWs were matched on what the seller wrote, so both counts could be low; the 105 Land Cruisers we left out could raise it further. We do not know how agents treat privately imported cars. Prices here are asking prices, not sale prices. The Ford Transit 2025, Lincoln Aviator, Infiniti QX50 and QX55, and recalled-year Hyundai Sonata and Azera have no live listings.
